Removal Services are aware of just how stressful moving can be. Our aim is to give you a simple plan to help alleviate the trauma involved. While we do not have all the answers we hope our timetable will be of some assistance and give you a basic guide to follow. 6-8 Weeks Prior to Moving Prepare a preliminary inventory of moveable items.
If removing plants, garden tools, etc from State to State; check what permits are required and any preparation you may need to do.
Apply the "8 is enough rule" (see removal and packing) and perhaps organise a garage sale for those unwanted items (it may help to pay your removal costs!)
Start using items in your refrigerator, garage etc, that you cannot move, but are still usable around your home.
Make a list of all relevant organisations that will help you get settled in your new area.
Notify your childrens' schools of your impending move and request a list of schools in your new area to contact.
Complete your redirection forms at the Post office, notify all relevant family/friends/businesses of your new address. 3-6 Weeks prior to moving Collect any important papers (insurance, will, passports, stocks bonds etc) and put them in one safe place.
Arrange the transfer or closure of all local bank accounts and open new ones in your new location.
Repair and clean all home décor and furniture including children's toys etc as needed.
Contact your removal company to confirm booking and discuss any queries you may have and schedule a packing date 1-2 days before your move if necessary.
Make arrangements for the relocation of your pets.
Move your most precious valuables to a safety deposit box to ensure their safety from the move.
Contact all current and new service companies to set connection and disconnection dates. 2 Weeks Prior to Moving Terminate all delivery services at your old address.

Prepare specific dates and contacts for your removal company including your travelling arrangements and emergency contact numbers.
Water fountains and ponds should be emptied, cleaned and dismantled ready for transport if necessary.
Children's' pools should be emptied, cleaned and packed. One Week Prior to Moving DO NOT DISCONNECT YOUR PHONE UNTIL THE DAY AFTER LOADING
Defrost Refrigerator/ Freezer
Pack an Essential box of items you will need immediately upon arrival at your new home, such as Kettle, Mugs, Coffee, tea etc, an alarm clock, medicines etc. Either take this box with you or make sure that the removalists put it on last so that it will be first off!
Have appliances disconnected and prepared for the move.
Fill any necessary prescriptions, medications etc needed for the next few weeks.
Plan and prepare simple meals for the moving day include utensils needed and easily packed away, you may find it useful to keep these in your Essential Box that way you know you'll have these things straight away when you unpack.
Swing Sets or Outdoor play equipment be dismantled, leave until the last week as you don't want your kids upset and it helps to keep them busy.
Water all plants to be moved the day before moving MOVING DAY Await arrival of removalists, give last minute instructions and confirm details already discussed.
Record all meter readings i.e.: power, water etc.
Lock all windows, doors and drop off keys to your real estate agent. |
